H.E. B. Delgersaikhan, Minister of Transport of Mongolia, welcomed Mr. Nattapong Punthakeirtpaisarn, Honorary Consul of Mongolia to Thailand, and the delegation for an exchange of views on cooperation
At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. B. Delgersaikhan expressed his gratitude to Mr. Nattapong for his appointment as Honorary Consul of Mongolia to the Kingdom of Thailand, as well as to the Thai business delegation for visiting and working in Mongolia
Mongolia and Thailand signed an Air Services Agreement in 1994, paving the way for direct flights between the two countries. MIAT Mongolian Airlines from Mongolia and AeroThai from Thailand were designated as regular carriers on the Ulaanbaatar-Bangkok route. Currently, MIAT Mongolian Airlines and Hunnu Air LLC also operate charter flights from Ulaanbaatar to Bangkok, Pattaya, and Phuket
Thailand’s Civil Aviation Training Center has trained approximately 80 Mongolian air traffic controllers since 1999 and has provided continuous training to more than 200 air traffic controllers. The Minister indicated Mongolia’s desire to continue and expand cooperation in this area
Additionally, Mr. B. Delgersaikhan introduced the Mongolian government’s policy to upgrade local airports to meet ICAO’s 4C international standards, aiming to increase capacity for both domestic and international flights from regional airports, which will significantly contribute to regional economic growth, tourism, and transportation and logistics system development
Under this cooperation framework, discussions were held regarding opportunities for development and investment in local airports such as Mörön Airport in Khuvsgul Province, Gurvansaikhan Airport in Ömnögovi Province, Khovd Airport in Khovd Province, and Choibalsan Airport in Dornod Province, as well as proposals to increase flight frequencies between the two countries
Mr. Nattapong Punthakeirtpaisarn, Honorary Consul of Mongolia to the Kingdom of Thailand, expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and emphasized the full potential for expanding cooperation between the two countries in civil aviation, tourism, economy, healthcare, and other areas, noting that several proposals would be forwarded to relevant Thai authorities for further consideration
At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. B. Delgersaikhan and Mr. Nattapong confirmed their joint intention to expand cooperation between Thailand and Mongolia, particularly in transportation and especially in civil aviation
